EMDR is a collaborative and client centered approach that is highly effective for individuals who have experienced trauma. It also relieves symptoms of anxiety, depression, phobias, PTSD and eating disorders.
EMDR “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy” is an extensively researched therapeutic approach developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s. EMDR therapy identifies the negative beliefs a person has about themselves and the core memories that are associated with this belief. The client briefly focuses on the traumatic memory while experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tappers, butterfly tapping). The intention is to promote adaptive processing and change the way the memory is stored in the brain. This reduces the emotional distress associated with the memory without having to talk in detail about the distressing memory. The client is able to gain deeper understanding, new insights and release emotional pain. Then the clients is able to replace these negative thoughts about themselves with more positive and adaptive thoughts and feelings, ultimately allowing the brain to resume a natural healing process.
EMDR Intensives
While traditional weekly psychotherapy can provide meaningful and long-lasting progress, it can often be disrupted by scheduling constraints, financial concerns and just life in general! I offer EMDR intensives to provide a more efficient, in depth and focused way to help you achieve your therapy goals. The EMDR intensive therapy sessions will be designed to fit your needs, optimize your results and provide you with positive progress in a condensed timeframe. We can either schedule clusters of time (3-4 hours) distributed over a few weeks or we can schedule several hours a day for consecutive days in one week. We will collaborate to develop a plan to meet your goals and schedule.
